Starrboard Collective is a Chicago based clothing brand inspired by the Midwest's coastal charm founded by Devin Johnson.
The brand is a love letter to the Great Lakes lifestyle: where sweatshirts get softer with every sunset, tote bags carry more than just your essentials, and every hat tells a story of where you’ve been.
We design with intention — small-batch collections, classic silhouettes, and quality that feels like my dad's sweatshirt from Cape Cod circa 1990.

The Legacy
In 1982, my dad started Chicago Line Cruises in his late twenties. He turned a single boat on the Chicago River into one of the city’s most iconic experiences - architecture river boat cruises.
My five siblings and I (and many cousins and friends) have spent our summers on these boats: learning, listening, and absorbing what it means to build something that brings people joy.
That family legacy is at the heart of Starrboard Collective. It’s an extension of Chicago Line Cruises with the purpose of designing meaningful and lasting pieces for the Chicago local or traveler visiting for a weekend.
It's a tribute to long days out on the lake, and to a city whose architecture continues to inspire and evolve.
The Name
Starrboard Collective gets its name from two places: the nautical term “starboard” — the right side of a vessel — and Starr, my grandma's maiden name.
Patricia Starr Newquist had a natural sense of grace — always in a matching set elegantly stacked with jewelry.
Starrboard Collective nods to her East Coast roots, raising her 8 kids with her husband Harvey Newquist in Massachusetts and Arizona. Her life bridged coasts — just like this brand.
Starrboard Collective is rooted in both heritage and direction — drawing from my dad’s decades on the water building Chicago Line Cruises, and inspired by the style and class of my grandma.
We are a brand shaped by family, by movement, and by a lifelong connection to the water — created for people who carry a sense of place with them, wherever they go.
